Military Relocation · San Antonio TX

Your PCS Toolkit

I know what a PCS move feels like from the inside. As a military dependent, I've lived the tight timelines, the cross-country stress, and the pressure of starting fresh in an unfamiliar city. This toolkit is everything I wish I'd had — in one place, free, no strings attached.

Use the checklist, explore neighborhoods near your base, and reach out whenever you're ready. I've got you.

Where to Live
Near Your Base

San Antonio's three JBSA installations each have distinct surrounding communities. Here's a practical guide to where military families typically settle.

JBSA — Lackland AFB

Southwest San Antonio

10–25 min commute

Alamo Ranch Helotes Leon Valley Westover Hills Lackland City Medina Valley

Southwest SA offers great value with newer construction in Alamo Ranch and Helotes. Families love the Hill Country feel with city convenience. NISD schools are strong throughout this corridor.

JBSA — Fort Sam Houston

Northeast San Antonio

10–30 min commute

Alamo Heights Terrell Hills Live Oak Universal City Converse Kirby

Fort Sam families often settle in the historic Alamo Heights / Terrell Hills area for upscale living, or in Live Oak and Universal City for more affordable options. Judson ISD serves much of this area.

JBSA — Randolph AFB

Northeast Corridor

10–25 min commute

Schertz Selma Cibolo Universal City New Braunfels Converse

Randolph's location makes Schertz and Cibolo extremely popular — great schools, newer homes, and a tight-knit military community. New Braunfels is also a short drive and offers excellent resale value.
